Hints and tips for making a great video
-
1
Keep it simple
Cast aside all notions of Hollywood-style sets. Creativity is nice, but we're not looking for the next Steven Spielberg - we're looking for passion, originality and keeping to the brief.
-
2
Plan the location and action
Where do you want to film? What might affect it on the day? Are you going to appear in the video or will you read a commentary over the top of the action?
-
3
Plan and prepare your script
Whether you're in the video yourself or reading a voiceover, think carefully about what you want to say and structure your script in a logical way. Write it, rewrite it and fine-tune it. Does it answer the question of how £15,000 would help you make your mark on the world?

4
Examples are good
An anecdote or story will help highlight what you're saying and paint a vivid picture in the audience's mind.
-
5
Practice makes perfect
The more rehearsed you are, the more natural you'll sound. But don't worry about memorising it - you can always ask someone to hold up prompt cards for you.
-
6
Speak clearly and with authority
Don't rush what you're saying. And don't speak too quietly. Take a deep breath at the beginning and project your voice throughout. Don't be afraid to use pauses either - they'll allow the audience to digest what you're saying.
-
7
Don't use 'filler' words
Try not to pepper your speech with "like", "sort of", "kind of", "erm", "you know what I mean." Keep it concise and articulate so it sounds like you're sure of what you're saying.
-
8
Ask other people's opinions
And listen to them! Try to get as much feedback as you can.
-
9
Relax and smile!
Take deep breaths to calm yourself down.
And if all goes pear-shaped ...retake!
